Dennis Schierenbeck - IT Specialist

Dennis Schierenbeck has, like almost all DMK administrative staff, been working from home and gave us his view on the last few weeks. At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in particular, the 38-year-old and his team faced a number of challenges. In recent weeks, up to 1,200 employees have been simultaneously working from their home offices using the DMK IT systems. Making this possible was no mean feat for the “Corporate IT” team. “Not only did we have to adapt our central systems, we also had to procure several notebooks as well as appropriate hardware.

“Now that the situation in Germany is gradually easing and our everyday working life is returning to normality, we are realising what a valuable opportunity this is to be able to be there for both family and work.”

Working from home offices has also changed the way that DMK employees communicate with one another. The demand for digital communication methods and platforms has increased sharply. Dennis Schierenbeck and his team are currently working on establishing the technical infrastructure required to improve internal and external communication and employee collaboration using Microsoft Teams. This requires a lot of coordination as well as the configuration of various IT systems. His team still has a few hours of work ahead of them until “Teams” is introduced at all locations.

“Now that the situation in Germany is gradually easing and our everyday working life is returning to normality, we are realising what a valuable opportunity this is to be able to be there for both family and work.”

The IT expert hopes that the coronavirus period and the “new way of working” will create opportunities for new working structures and that this will further improve the work-life balance for many employees.

“Although we’re still seeing colleagues virtually, sometimes you can miss the social contact. But I could get used to my family bringing me coffees,” laughs Dennis Schierenbeck.
